Over the last month, volunteers have been delivering to clients a complimentary Hygiene Pack because of the generosity of Woolworths, RB and Meals on Wheels Australia.

RB is the parent company of brands including Gen20 and Pine O'Cleen. They have donated four products in each pack including Glen 20 surface spray disinfectant, Pine O'Cleen wipes, Pine O'Cleen mutipurpose spray and Pine O'Cleen disinfectant gel. Each Pack is worth $29.

Woolworths kindly organised the distribution of the products through their stores and we are most grateful for the support from Woolworths Moruya. Woolworths also provided a 'green bag' for each Pack.

Clients have been delighted with the Packs and welcomed the support and assistance.

This sponsorship is Australia wide and 50,000 Packs have been disctributed. Within Eurobodlalla we are distributing 200 Packs and most have already been received.

Eurobodalla Meals on Wheels, like other services provides More Than a Meal.

Gifts such as these Hygiene Packs have been going to clients since the bush fires of 2019-2020, the floods which followed and the pandemic. They have been a way of providing additional assistance.

Group Social Support and Individual Social Support have been two signifcant areas where the wellbeing and reablement of clients and community members has been primary in our work.

Meals to our clients have continued and it has been good to be able to take the meals into the home again, and to spend a little time with each client.

PALZ is the newest of the groups providing services to the Eurobodalla community.

The local group was started in 2019. It provides six meetings a year for Professionals with  the onset of Alzheimer's, and their carers. While this is our brief, we do welcome anyone who would like to join us for the morning on the second Tuesday each second month to hear a stimulating speaker, to discuss and debate issues and to meet other people.

The group hears from the speaker and discusses and debates what has been delivered over morning tea. Recently the group has stayed in the Boardroom at Eurobodalla Meals on Wheels for a two course lunch and to continue the conversations.

This month the group heard from Pam and Jeff Thorpe on establishing and running a Bed and Breakfast Hotel in Tasmania. This brought back memories of times spent in B&Bs by everyone present and allowed for the reliving of  tales and adventures.

This very interesting talk followed others which have included discussing

  • the colouring in medications,
  • chocolate and its benefits,
  • being a member of the Australia parliament,
  • travels through Russia,
  • climate change and how our consumerism doesnt help,
  • bee keeping,
  • how we handled the bushfires,
  • the work of Meals on Wheels, and this month
  • the establishment and tales from a B & B business.

The group next meets on Tuesday 1 June, at 10am, at Eurobodalla Meals on Wheels office in Moruya and all are welcome.

PALZ was started in Geelong, Victoria and now has Chapters throughout the world. All have the same aim which is to allow for conversation and discussion so to stimulate social interactions and language processes.

Easter has arrived and so have easter eggs from Woolworths Moruya!

All clients and volunteers involved during Easter week will receive an egg. These will be distributed with their Easter meals delivery, when receiving individual social support or when at our Out and About (Group Social Support) events.

Our gift has been made possible due to the generosity of Woolworths Moruya where the Manager Daniel Robertson kindly agreed to provide 200 eggs for distribution. For this gift we are most grateful.

These festive occasions are special at Eurobodalla Meals on Wheels. At Christmas and Easter we find ways to bring a little joy into the lives of our clients as many of them can be alone during these breaks.

Our sincere thanks to Daniel and Woolworths Moruya.

The Board has started the process of developing the new Strategic Plan.

This was put on hold for 12 months as the outcome of the Aged Care Royal Commission was unkown and the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 created a new environment.

But now we have the findings of the Royal Commission and are understanding the pandemic more.

The Board has developed a Timeline which allows debate on a range of matters through a Workshop setting after each monthly Board meeting.

The Board will also consult with clients and volunteers during the process of developing a Plan which will see the direction for the future set.

To date the Board has confirmed the Purpose of the Cooperative as:

Eurobodalla Meals on Wheels helps make our community stronger by providing services that contribute to the health, wellbeing and independence of people.

With this firmly established the Board now moves to how this will be undertaken by the paid and unpaid workers, the clients and the Board itself.

This is an exciting time for any organisation as it looks at what it is providing and highlights how the Purpose is to be achieved.
